Seattle and back
Seattle was a bit of a disappointment. It is a great city, but there were no availale hotels anywhere in the city, suburbs, airport, etc. We spent several hours driving around inquiring about hotels, so that didn't help matters. Ultimately we just decided to have fun in the city and stop worrying about where we would stay. It worked marvelously and we had lots of fun for several hours before heading back to Oregon.
Leaving Portland and heading north.
A stop at the first Starbucks store.
Cheezy tourist photo. Notice the logo behind us - it's different.
Have you ever seen those people in Seattle throwing fish on TV? This is where they do that. But there wasn't any fish being tossed. They were closed when we were there. Good thing because I hadn't brought my halibut helmet.
Today we're beginning our long, slow treck to northern California.

So, Lyrical Gangster - now that you've seen a vast stretch of California, the age-old question must be asked: So-Cal or Nor-Cal?

Well we've discussed that a bit ourselves lately. And it depends on how you define Northern California. The beauty up here is not matched in Southern California, I have to say. But who can live in Lake Tahoe? Most people seem to mean the San Francisco Bay Area when they say Northern California and that remains my least favorite place I've been. I guess I'd love to live in the south and drive up to places like this to hang out on occasion.

I agree definitions are key. Most people mean SF because most people have an LA centric view. SF is more Central Coast CA than Northern, in my opinion - more like Monterey and San Luis Obispo than Willits, Eureka, Redding, or Tahoe. Live in Tahoe, work in Reno - how about that? What about Santa Rosa / Napa?
