Massachusetts was the first state to outlaw slavery. This escaped slave moved to Boston and became a contributing member to society. When he was found by his owner he had to return to the south-after being free for a number of years. The Commonwealth actually purchased this guy from his owner and allowed him to move to Mass. and be free, they became the first abolishonist state after that. They also granted gay marriage too, which they equate to the whole slavery thing.--Jeff
